I met Simon Hirsh last year and at this time my wife and I are in final stages of purchasing a log home from Simon Hirsh. Simon Hirsh designed and built the home on a stunning property Lake Joseph.
Our full time home is in California and a significant portion of the build out was done long distance by phone and e-mail. This obviously added complexity to the situation and yet working with Simon and his contracting team at Hirsh Construction Inc. we were able to complete the project in a timely fashion, on budget and exactly as we envisioned that the home would be. My wife and I were able to add to, modify and customize the house. Even the occasional change or revision was done promptly and with a cheery attitude. I cannot imagine working with a contractor who is more pleasant, more accommodating, and more reasonable. Once complete the project budget will be in excess of $4 million and we are extremely happy with both the quality of work and the level of attentive service.
I have enjoyed working with Simon and his crew. Simon has been able to accommodate the every changing scope of work and stick reasonably close to our budget and timeline. The quality of the work is fantastic, the pace of construction was great, and he was able to give us everything we wanted. I now consider Simon and many members of his crew to be our friends.

I have been meaning to write this note of appreciation for a number of months now. Leslie and I cannot tell you how appreciative we are for the fabulous job you have done on our new cottage. We are completely thrilled with the end result and the quality and care you and your trades took in building our dream .cottage. We both knew this was not a straight forward project (from the extensive blasting through to incorporating an old barn into new construction) but you pulled it off with complete professionalism. We are also most appreciative of the prompt follow … up you and Dwight have had in addressing final items and the inevitable odd deficiency that has arisen. All these efforts have made for a very enjoyable first full season in our cottage.

The home was for sale while under construction. Because the project was at an early stage of construction I was able to modify and customize it to suit my own needs and tastes, while still preserving the vision that Simon Hirsh had for the project, but at the same time increasing the scale of the project significantly from its original budget of over $4 million dollars.
Over the last 8 years since the project was built I have been in regular contact with Simon and continued to work with Simon and his company on maintenance, upkeep, and other new projects on the property.
I am very pleased with the work Simon Hirsh has done for me and would gladly refer him to other people looking to build a world class log or timber home.

Further inquiry and recommendations from friends led us to use Simon as a builder and designer. Going into our project we had high expectations which were surpassed by Simon and his crew. In 2007 we contracted with Simon Hirsh of Hirsh Log homes to build a summer residence in the Muskoka’ s. Simon came up with a design that worked perfectly for our needs especially with four children. The space planning was well thought out and designed to maximize the living space within the structure. The cottage is boat access and therefore can create delays i.e.: ice freezing & thawing and throw off budget targets when dealing with boats and barges but the overall time to build was about 18 months. Despite the delays with ice, throughout the building process, Simon was always within a week either way of his time targets. His crew was a very skilled and professional group and always available when we would call. We met with Simon and his internal staff many times during the process to choose all of the exterior and interior finishes and fixtures. Since this was virtually a tum key build, it required a lot of planning on Simon’s part to make sure things progressed quickly.
Simon was very flexible in the payment process, billing in smaller chunks as the work progressed. Sandy was excellent at communicating and explaining bills if we had questions. Building a cottage or home can be a daunting task to anyone so needless to say, when you have someone like Hirsh log homes to hold your hand through the process it relieves a lot of stress that can build up for a project like this. Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend Hirsh Log homes to anyone looking to build.

It has been 3 years since I met Simon Hirsh. With a desire to build a log home, not even having found the land yet, I did research and got referrals, and found Hirsh Log Homes. Not having land yet may scare off many builders, but, in my view, with Simon it was more about the project and its eventuality and grandeur of the scope of work that was important than making a quick buck. Drawings were done, the land was secured and we embarked on the project in September 2008. The property is a resort that will emerge as a family compound not open to the public. Two major buildings were renovated, one is complete and beautifully appointed, and on budget… The project is on schedule, and also on budget… Simon will from time to time recommend enhancements and always seeks approval first. To date, over $1.2Million has been advanced to Simon against detailed reconciled invoices from a capable staff…
The main building has commenced and will be complete in May 2010 with a scope of work that totals over $2.6Million. I have approved the payment schedule and materials are on site and the project is in full swing. I find Simon to be honest and have tremendous passion for his work and would most certainly recommend him to my contacts.
